Picture Scavenger Hunt Clues
Picture clues allow children to follow a treasure hunt before they can read independently. A close-up photo, simple drawing, or recognizable symbol can point to the next location without turning the hunt into a guessing game.
Choose recognizable images
Use a clear photo or drawing of one distinctive part of the location: the refrigerator handle, a striped pillow, the mailbox flag, or the toy-box lid. Avoid wide room photos that reveal several possible answers.
Create a simple route
Place one picture card at each answer and keep the next location visible from the child’s normal height. Four to six clues are usually enough for preschoolers. Older early readers may enjoy a picture paired with one short word.
